I always meant to blog. Really. I love the concept and have a short list of blogs I read on a regular basis. And sure as calendars are half price after Christmas, I would think I would start a blog as soon as I finished my PhD. I had tons of things I wanted to write about, and I firmly believe that ELA teachers should be writers, so I was just waiting for that magic moment.

The magic moment came, but close on its heels came the start of the school year with a new job (full time) and adjunct teaching (part time) to eat up my focus and energies. A hectic semester pushed the blog idea to the back ground until today, December 27, 2012. At  Christmas break from the day job, between semesters from the university teaching, and armed with a new laptop, I am at last ready to commit to a blog.

I want to write about education and books. And about teaching. I almost titled the blog "Teach This, Not That."  And about the power of reading for kids and how that idea is ignored far too often. And about the things that just make me want to write. And books--did I mention that?

So here is the first blog. Disjointed and not really worth the reading. I mean, it doesn't exactly make me want to follow my own blog, so how can it connect with anyone else? Still, it's far more than anything else I have committed to the blogosphere.

So here's to a full year of blogging--with more interesting topics--in 2013.
